Hello and welcome! I’m Menahal, a licensed mental health counselor based out of NYC. I work with individuals, couples, and families who are struggling with mental health concerns, rocky marriages, addictions, trauma, or life transitions. The philosophy that drives my work is the belief that happiness, resilience, and mental strength are within reach for every one of us.
Through my work and educational experience, I understand that the decision to engage in counseling requires courage and so I strive to create a comfortable, safe, and welcoming environment where clients can begin the process of healing and building. I work with clients to explore the roadblocks they face in reaching their goals, whether emotional, physical, relational or otherwise.
As humans, we desire connection. This belief drives my passion to see couples succeed in their relationship goals, whether enhancing an already solid relationship or getting “unstuck” from recurring fighting patterns. When working with couples, I utilize the skills gained through training in the Gottman method as well as in EFT. I’ve had the honor of teaming with the Gottman Institute to author the Islamic Reference Guide for the Gottman Method, a companion to The New York Times bestseller The Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work.
I’ve worked in both mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities, which have helped me understand the prevalence of trauma and its profound impact on both mental and physical health. Currently, I am pursuing training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to enhance my expertise in treating trauma and its impact on one’s wellness.
